On July 7th a group of students and faculty will be travelling to
This trip is optional and open to all. During the day we will be visiting various mosques and religious sites. As such, all those who wish to participate are asked to respect local custom and dress appropriately.
The cost of the trip is 7.5 JD per person. This does not include food costs. All those who wish to go must take their passport with them.
If interested, please sign up and pay at the reception desk by Saturday, July 5th.

Summer Term Orientation Schedule

The Summer Term Orientation Session will begin in on Tuesday, June 24th (just a few days away) and we wanted to give everyone an idea of what to expect.
The schedule will run as follows:
9:00 am -11:00 am
11:00 am – 11:15 am Break
11:15 am - 12:15 pm Academic Orientation**
12:15 pm – 1:00 pm
1:00 pm -
The orientation will be held at our main center on Queen Rania Street (University Road). We are located on the third floor of Building 22 (also known as the “Sony Building”) next to Mukhtar Mall.
For those students who will be arriving in a taxi on Saturday morning, please either copy down or print out the following Arabic text of our address and take it with you. This way, you may either read the address to the cab driver or simply hand him the piece of paper (if you choose the latter, we recommend having the text printed out rather than writing it down). If all else fails, please call us at 515 4364 or contact me at 0776 716 567.

Finally, for those students who have not paid their tuition or housing fees, please come prepared to do so. You may make your payment with cash (US or JD) or credit (Visa or MasterCard). Checks are not accepted.
A final note: At Qasid, we take Mondays and Fridays off and hold classes the rest of the week.

*Orientation session is meant to provide those new to Jordan with an overall picture of life in Amman. The presentation will cover a wide range of topics (everything from visa procedures to water use) and will attempt to answer the most common questions/concerns students have regarding there stay here outside of the classroom. Students who already live in Amman, or have visited before, may find the presentation somewhat less beneficial. As such, attendance is optional.
**During the Academic Orientation session, many of academic policies/procedures will be explained. Attendance is mandatory.

Women’s only swimming

Archery and outdoor recreation

We are planning a trip to the same Country club where we held a successful archery trip last semester. We will head up there on Thursday the 5th in the morning around 10:30am and return at around 3:30pm. They have many activities other than archery as well, and many of them are free. Activities include:
-beach volleyball
-billiards
-foosball
-playground for children
-obstacle course
People are welcome to just come up even if they don’t want to partake in the activities and enjoy relaxing at the park, for which entrance is free. They also have a restaurant there and we could have lunch together afterward (please note that the park does not allow people to bring their own food to the park)
Paid activities include:
-archery
-paintball
-hiking (perhaps free, will find out if people are interested)
All those interested can sign-up at the front desk. The cost of the day is based on what you participate in as well as the bus ride there and back. Estimate is about 10JD

Cycling trip to Madaba. Cycle through a beautiful area this Friday, May 30th, for the reduced cost of 15 JD. Cost includes: bus ride to Madaba and back, Bikes, water and snacks. The biking is of moderate difficulty. The bike ride is roughly 30 km. Hiking Trip

Hello everyone,
In light of the long weekend we are attempting to organize a hiking trip for people interested. Details for the men’s group is the following:
When: Sunday
Where: Wadi Hasa
What: cost of the trip has not been calculated as of yet. We will need to share expenses for transportation, which needs confirmations from people.
Bring extra change of clothing (there will be swimming) and food for the day. Everyone must know how to swim.

Women’s Hiking trip:

Did you know that the vast majority of the stars in the night sky are actually referred to by Arabic names? Did you know that hadith define the time of fajr, asr, and maghrib by the planets and stars? Come to a one-hour talk and planetarium show:

Where we will discuss:
- Basic principles of stargazing including when to go, what to look for, and how to maximize your enjoyment
- How the Arabs used the stars in their agriculture during the time of the Prophet
- Hadiths and poetry in which the Arabs described astronomical objects and phenomena
- The transmission of star names from Arabic to Latin to the modern world
- Constellations unique to the Arabs and how to find them
All students will receive:
- Star charts for year-round viewing
- Detailed charts containing the Arabic names of stars discussed in class
